Welcome to the NDSC_0122ursing Department in Dr. Hamid S. Al-Ahmadi Hospital. The Nursing Department is a dynamic and progressive department consisting of 100 qualified nursing staff, health care assistant. It is led by the Director of Nursing and supported by the Nurse Educator, Nursing supervisor, Head Nurses and Charge Nurses. The Nursing Department plays a central role and is an active member of the organizational team in the development, management and effective in delivering of quality patient care and services to complex patients in a variety of inpatient, outpatient, adult and pediatric specialties.


The philosophy of Nursing Department at Dr. Hamid S. Al-Ahmadi Hospital is based on respect for the individuals, dignity and worth. We believe all patients have the right to receive effective nursing care. This care is a personal service that is based on patient’s needs and their clinical disease or condition. The nursing service participates in a multidisciplinary team approach to patient care and encourages collaboration with the wider multidisciplinary team to include patient’s relatives. The provision of high quality patient-centered care underpinned by evidence, best practice and professional guidelines is an important value for nurses at Dr. Hamid S. Al-Ahmadi Hospital. The Nursing Department commitment to provide quality patient care is highlighted through its participation in a continuous quality improvement initiative, which requires regular auditing of practice and feedback from patients.


In our mission, we believe that providing “appropriate and timely” care must be based on scientific evidence and in the context of providing care promotes cost-effective and efficient care, which is congruent with the hospital mission to deliver superior value in high-quality, cost effective acute care the desire to promote quality outcomes for the patient, employee and community supports the hospital’s overall mission to foster community wellbeing.This pursuit toward excellence is guided by our quality enhancement and outcomes management programs.


The ultimate goal of our nursing care is to provide safe passage for all patients in the health system with care directed toward the restoration of the patient to the optimal level of health and comfort possible. If restoration of health is not possible, the goal of nursing care will become directed at assisting the patient and family to cope with the outcome of the illness in a way that helps them attain the highest level of psychological and physical comfort possible.


To achieve quality nursing care, we utilize the nursing process to assess, formulate nursing diagnosis, to establish patient care goals, to plan and implement nursing intervention and to evaluate the results of nursing care. We strive to support the highest level of self-care and independence possible for the patient and family through appropriate nursing interventions.


To further support Dr. Hamid S. Al-Ahmadi Hospital and nursing mission statement, the Department of Nursing has developed the following purpose statements:


  • To develop and maintain nursing care standards which are research based and reflect the standards and policies of Dr. Hamid S. Al-Ahmadi Hospital and the Ministry of Health.
  • To maintain an organization, which can support quality, nursing care through the recruitment and retention of high-quality nursing personnel.
  • To continually monitor quality and develop interventions to enhance the quality of patient care.
  • To continuously monitor and improve the outcomes associated with patient care


The Nursing Department promotes a decentralized organization with authority and responsibility for decision-making at the patient care level. This works to attain the goal for quality care delivered a climate conducive to professional practice.


Nursing care is delivered 24 hours a day in the following departments, services, or areas:


  • Adult and pediatric Critical care nursing provides “high touch” care to patients and families within a “high tech” environment. As an integral member of the multidisciplinary healthcare team, the critical care nurse is an expert in assessment of patient/ family needs and evaluation of the care provided must be proficient in communication, assessment and technology skills.
  • Emergency Nursing are educated to have the ability to care for any patient, any age, with any illness or injury at any time within a multidisciplinary and multi-specialty team.
  • Neonatal Nursing provides expert care for premature, low birth weight or medically fragile infants. Nurses receive advanced training and work closely with neonatologists and parents to assure that babies receive the highest quality of care. A major focus of the unit is parental education, which helps parents learn to care for their child while in the unit as well as preparation for home.
  • Labor and Delivery nursing and midwifery staff offers comprehensive obstetrical and neonatal care for women in labor.
  • Inpatient Nursing are actively involved with each member of the health care team in setting and attaining goals for patients. They help patients and families achieve the highest quality of life possible within the constraints of their disease.

Nursing care is provided in the following areas with limited hours of operation and “on call” coverage:


  • Outpatient Nursing – are expert in nursing assessment and focus on patient education, chronic disease management, and reduction of unhealthy behaviors and disease prevention. Working with patients of any age with any conditions, the nurses reach out and directly affect the health of the community.
  • Endoscopy.
  • Operation room – are ready on call 24 hours to receive general surgeries, urology surgeries , orthopedic, ENT, Obstetric and ophthalmologist cases.
